What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants securely access business data and tools. It was created by Anthropic (Claude) and is supported by OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Microsoft. Our MCP server translates AI requests into safe, audited queries against your ERP.

The service accesses the WinShop database through a dedicated read-only account — it never writes to the system and doesn’t affect its operation.

Payroll and other sensitive modules can be excluded; every request is logged.

Hosted in the EU, encrypted end to end

The cloud service runs in the EU and connects to your database over an encrypted link — via IP whitelisting or your VPN. Beyond the audit log, your data is never stored — and never used to train AI models.

OAuth 2.0, no shared keys

Every user signs in as themselves and access can be revoked at any time.

What you need

WinShop SQL or STD WinShop SQL runs on Microsoft SQL Server — we read directly from the database. For the STD edition (Visual FoxPro data) we agree on the connection based on your installation.
Approved database access Whitelisting our IP addresses, or access via your VPN — we agree the details with your IT. Nothing is installed on your side.
AI account Claude (we recommend Pro or Team) or ChatGPT Business or Enterprise. Microsoft Copilot support is coming.

FAQ

Will it slow our system down?

Queries are optimised for reading and run at low priority; a typical request is a fraction of the load of a standard report. We set limits during deployment.

We run several stores.

Yes — WinShop MCP sees the head office and every store whose data reaches it. You can ask about the whole chain or a single store.

Will the AI see all our data?

Only what you allow. Access is configured per module and the default mode is read-only. Sensitive areas (e.g. payroll) can be excluded entirely.

Do I need a paid Claude or ChatGPT subscription?

For day-to-day use, yes. For Claude we recommend Pro or Team (Free allows one custom connector); in ChatGPT, custom MCP servers are available on the Business, Enterprise and Edu plans. You pay the AI provider directly; we’ll help you choose.

Where is my data processed, and what about GDPR?

The service runs in EU data centres and connects to your system securely. Data is never used to train AI models. We sign a data processing agreement (DPA).

Can the AI break anything in the ERP?

Not in Read mode — it never writes to the system. Write actions (higher tier) go through the vendor’s official interface and each one must be confirmed by a human.

What if I upgrade my ERP to a new version?

We track supported versions and keep the connector updated. Let us know before a major upgrade and we’ll verify compatibility in advance.

Are you a partner of the ERP vendors?

No — we are an independent vendor. All ERP names are trademarks of their respective owners. We are in talks with several vendors about partnerships.
